The Power of the Network

The power of network

Today’s post is going to be a short one, but a very important one.

Here is the important bit.

You have a free resource. It’s there to help you with every aspect of your life. It’s called Your Network.

I realised how powerful it was when I was sitting with a client of mine in a café in north London. My client was performing that evening and I was there to coach him and give him feedback afterwards.

My client was organising the event and as we sat discussing what we were going to do, his phone went. It was the cameraman he had booked to video this evening’s event. The cameraman said “I’m really looking forward to doing this job tomorrow night!”

Except the job was this evening and my client now no longer had a camera person. Together we spent 40 minutes calling, texting and emailing people from both our phones. Time and again we were rebuffed. Too short notice. Don’t know anyone. Busy.

But after 40 minutes we found someone local who could do it. It was then that I realised how powerful the network really was. We joined forces, rang and texted everybody without judgement and eventually it paid off.

After we had found our cameraman we ended up being offered another 3 who’s names now sit in my client’s phone book waiting for another opportunity.
There are 2 messages here.

  1. Look at your phone book. This is the best resource you have for building you business or for changing your life. Don’t judge. Ask. My business began to get traction from asking the question of everybody I knew. The question was, Who do you know? The best results came from the unlikeliest of places.
  2. Tenacity. We got results because we both kept going and refused to give in to the feeling of it all being too late. Do you cold call for your business? Be tenacious. Hold steady until you get the result you are looking for.

One Response so far.
